Shock Absorbers Explained

In a simplest form, Shock Absorbers are devices that helps to control the impact and rebound movement of your vehicle’s springs and suspension. Shock Absorbers have two major functions. Apart from controlling the movement of your vehicle’s springs and suspension, Shock Absorbers keeps your tyres in contact with the ground at all times. During the movement of your vehicle, the bottom surface of your tyres are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road. At any time, the tyre’s contact with the ground reduces or compromise, the driver has jeopardized its’ and the passengers’ safety.
 

Symptoms of Worn Shock Absorbers

Regularly, drivers may not know on how to inspect their shock absorbers. They will only replace the shock absorbers once advised by the experts after the vehicle has complete service. But, it’s better to be safe than sorry by knowing the symptoms of your shock absorbers have worn out and requires replacing.
 
Here are a few symptoms of Worn Shock Absorbers:
 

1.    Swerving or Nose Diving while braking

Certain situations where driver may have to sudden brake the vehicle while driving when driver encounters an unwanted situation in front of the vehicle. The force will be transferred to the front of the vehicle. If your vehicle experiences a nose dive or swerving, this is an indication that your shock absorbers may have worn out.
 

2.    Uneven Tyre Wear

A worn Shock Absorbers signals the inability to keep the tyres in contact with the ground or control the rebound and movement while driving at all times. As such, part of the tyre that is in contact with the ground surface will wear out but part of the tyre that is not in contact with the ground surface may not. This will cause uneven tyre wear. 
 

3.    Leaking Fluid

Driving recklessly while on a hard and uneven ground surface may also scratch or damaged the internal parts of the shock absorber. When the Oil Seal or Piston Valve is compromise, oil fluid may leak and reduces the shock absorber’s abilities to control the movement of the vehicle’s springs and suspension. If you have encounter excessive oil on your shock absorber, get your shock absorbers inspected by an expert for confirmation.
